2020-21 hotel options in the increasingly attractive Slovenia
17 February 2020 Hotel developments

With its majestic mountains, pretty coastline, historic towns, exceptional nature and accessible Central European location, Slovenia is a destination which offers everything within its relatively small borders. Meetings and incentive travel is on the rise in Slovenia and the high-quality accommodation options are keeping pace with the rise in demand for events, conferences and meetings. The next couple of years will see a number of excellent additions to the already vibrant Slovenian hospitality scene.

Barcelo Occidental 4*, Ljubljana

Ljubljana is a charming and green capital, whose pedestrianised centre is attracting an increasing number of positive international column inches. With outstanding connectivity via Ljubljana and other nearby airports, meetings and incentives tourism is on the rise and the quality accommodation choices will increase in 2021, with the opening of the very central Barcelo Occidental. Situated just 3 minutes' walk from Konges Square, the 151 rooms and two meeting rooms spanning 30 and 40 square metres, respectively in the 4-star property will be an ideal base for conferences and events in the Slovenian capital. As of spring 2020, the opening is scheduled for June 2021.

Grand Plaza, Ljubljana

A new 5-star hotel catering to larger conferences in Ljubljana is set for completion by March 2021. The 356 rooms of hotel Grand Plaza cover 20 floors and the restaurant at the top offers perhaps the finest views of the city. Centrally located, Grand Plaza has a conference capacity of up to 350 delegates, with 7 meeting rooms all with day light on the first floor, as well as the possibility to bring in cars, making it an attractive destination for automotive events. There is parking for 120 cars and a restaurant capacity of 600.

Maestoso 4*, Lipica

2020 will bring the opportunity to experience the famous Lipizzaner horses close up as a unique event location, as hotel Maestoso in Lipica completes its renovation. Located a short drive from Trieste and Portorož, Lipica offers a range of incentive activities, including horse whispering, horse carriage competition, dinning in a stable close to the Lipizzaner horses and a golf course close by. Respecting the characteristics of Karst and the tradition of Lipica, hotel Maestoso 4* will feature 140 rooms and a business centre with 5 conference halls.

The larger hotel chains are also taking a growing interest in Slovenia. These include Marriott Hotels and its Four Points by Sheraton in Ljubljana is set to be enlarged, yet one more addition to the increasingly attractive option of Slovenia as a meetings and incentives destination. If this sparked your interest, contact the Intours DMC team and discuss options that best suit your group program.
